ANGELO M ANGELO M

When the steel mill he worked at went bankrupt costing him his pension and chance to retire, Angelo M. (short for Melasecca) tossed his hardhat, picked up his guitar and began penning songs for his Debut CD, Far From Home. His soulful voice rings with authenticity and carries the rawness of truth seasoned with experience and retrospection as he sings Lost, the third track on this Debut Effort. A Rootstime Review calls this former steelworker a "Brilliant Guitarist" with an "Excellent Voice", and says his song, 'Lost' "produces "Goose Bumps". An accomplished finger-style & slide guitarist who's also noted for playing Dobro, mandolin and harp, Angelo M. is casting a strong impression on the music scene with his guitar virtuosity and his all original blend of finger-picked American Roots (Folk/Blues) which draws influences from Ry Cooder, Duane Allman, Chet Atkins, and Leo Kottke.

Far From Home, on which Angelo M. plays all the instrumentation except drums, received airplay across the US as well as in parts of Europe & Japan with spins on 130+stations in 40 US states including AAA leader WXPN. The first two tracks of Far From Home are also featured in the TV Series, Roadtrip Nation, airing nationally on PBS and the second track, Thirty Years won an Honorable Mention in the prestigious "Mountain Stage" NewSong Contest and the annual Billboard Song Contest. Since leaving the steel mill Angelo's played numerous festivals and listening rooms including Philadelphia's World Café Live, the legendary Godfrey Daniels, and the Johnstown Folk Festival where he received a standing ovation. Angelo also made his European Debut in Ireland’s notable music venue, Dolan's Warehouse. Performing at festivals & theaters; clubs & coffee houses Angelo M. is wowing audiences as he brings to life his collection of earthy folk and blues. “I just saw Angelo at the Johnstown FolkFest! He was the very BEST act there. What a major talent…” -Vicki DiGuardi; "I knew Angelo was good from the CD, but Live he floored us. What a tremendous talent! " - Kath Cameron, HomegrownRadioNJ

Angelo M. is also making a name for himself in the blues arena, where at more than one festival, he was selected as the only solo act for a main stage performance. He's performed at the Atlanta Blues & Music Festival and the Kalamazoo Blues Festival where reviews called his performance "Powerful" and said he was "One of the Highlights". Angelo M. has also appeared on several radio programs including the Nationally Syndicated Radio Show, River City Folk with host Tom May and WXPN's Folk Show with host, Gene Shay; and the PBS TV News Magazine, TEMPO did a feature story on Angelo M.'s successful transition from steelworker to performing songwriter.

Born in Philadelphia, and currently based out of Central Pennsylvania (US) Angelo M. (Angelo Melasecca), was the youngest of four Boys and influenced by music, as far back as, he can remember. With his older brothers all teenagers before he could walk Angelo’s house was always filled with music. It was the twangy guitar sounds of the early sixties that planted the ambition in an eight-year-old boy to learn how to make his Christmas-present guitar reverberate just like Duane Eddy's. Before he was 10, Angelo had his first paying gig; by 11 his trio was playing old "pop" & country instrumentals for VFW Posts; by age 16 he was playing in high school bands and doing shore gigs. The most prolific band of his youth, The Four Sunns continued playing together for many years until family responsibilities pulled Angelo away from the music circuit; though he never put down his guitar. In 1990, Angelo began performing publicly again in a variety of set-ups from soloist to power trio; roadhouse boogie & blues band to the popular acoustic duo, Angelo & Paisley. But, it wasn't until recently that Angelo M. began his singer-songwriter & solo career in earnest when he left his decades-long job in a PA steel mill. Angelo has shared bills with many talented musicians including: Roger Mcguinn, John Sebastian, Dar Williams, Chris Smither, Shemekia Copeland, Cephas & Wigging, Peter Mulvey and more.

In 2009 in addition to performing at a variety of festivals and listening room venues throughout the US Angelo M. will release his Sophomore CD, STEELWORK. And whether it's his intricate finger-style on the acoustic guitar, some searing slide work on the Dobro or the high and lonesome strains of his mandolin, you'll be sure to enjoy this gifted artist who plays with the humility of someone who doesn't yet know just how good he is in the scheme of all things musical.
